Fat September Trouting on Shasta Lake
9-7-2026
Scott Caldwell
September trout action on Shasta Lake has started out just like all the previous summer months, it has been awesome.
These fat hard fighting great eating fishing are continuing to feed heavily on baby shad all over the lake. The fish remain deep (80 to 110 feet) and trolling with plugs or spoons remains my most effective method for producing action. Fish size has been in the 2 to 4 pound class with Rainbows making up most of the trout we have been landing. Browns continue to bite as well, I just haven't caught as many over the past week. Fishing in September is historically a great month and a continuation of the excellent summer action.
