Shasta Lake is making my job look easy, when the fish cooperate like they have this past week. All week, despite the windy mornings fishing as been outstanding. The wind kept temperatures on the lake between 65 and 85 degrees, super comfortable. My clients have had 20 to 30 fish days, catching and mostly releasing a mix of Brown and Rainbow Trout. There have also been a few Kokanee in the mix.

Trolling shad imitation pattern plugs and dodgers with hootchie spinners or spoons have been my go to set ups. I have caught fish between 35 an 115 feet. The honey zone this week has been 60 to 80 feet. That can always change as the temperatures rise. Last summer, I fished 130 feet deep for a good portion of the summer season. Pro-Cure has always been my scent of choice and Anchovy or Shrimo krill anise have been working well lately. I have been tipping my hootchies and spoons with nightcrawlers or homemade minced garlic white shoe peg corn for added flavor.

These fish are are in great shape fighting hard, ripping drag and jumping when they get near the surface or the boat. These are some great eating fish and they will only continue to get bigger and fatter as they feed on shad for the rest of the summer. That 10 pound plus fish is out there waiting to be caught. Kevin is leading the pack with an 8 pound Brown trout.

As many of you know I have been living in Lakehead the past two years at the Shasta Lake Motel. This is a great little motel and place to stay while you fish with me. Dirk is the owner and an awesome person. Lakehead is just north of Redding along I-5 and has two gas stations, a grocery store and two bar grills, the Basshole and Klondike. I can take of all your needs, fishing food and lodging. Just give me a call and I can put it all together for you, you just need to get yourself here.

I have some open days toward the middle and end of July. August and September are wide open, so just give me a call 530 905 0758. You can always check my up to date Booking Calendar for available days and book a trip online with a card. I take them all.

Calling is always best , Happy Summer and many fish on!
