Shasta Lake Summer gorging season is here

Scott Caldwell
This past week on Shasta Lake has been awesome. We are at the beginning of the Summer season of this year round fishery. Yes, it is getting hot, but the fishing is more often than not, as hot as the weather. These fish are now in full on feeding mode. They are loading up on threadfin shad. There are massive schools of bait scattered all over the lake and all the fish are feeding on them and plankton.
We have been catching Bass, Brown and Rainbow Trout and Kokanee. The trout have been in the 2 to 6 pound class and we should continue to see them get heavier as the summer progresses.
2026 is my 33 straight year fishing Shasta Lake. I have learned a lot over those years, and what you learn each an every year, is what you did in the past may not work in the future. Those of you who have supported and fished with me know my boat is floating tackle box. Fishing is fun because we buy all this shit to fish with. I am living proof of that. I love fishing gear, all kinds, my roots are southern California ocean/pier fishing with a few famous bass lakes mixed in. Fishing is my passion that I chose to share with you all and make little scratch to feed my obsession.
Yesterday, was the best day of week in terms of numbers of fish caught, 20 plus. My goal as many of you know is always a double digit day. I will stay out all day to try an make that happen, each and every trip. I don't go buy a clock, an 8 hour day is not my work day. I just fish and we have fun and catch and release too.
Vern and is 84 year Father in law topped off the week by killing it. They took home some tasty bass, Kokanee and trout meat. That is all one can ask for!!!
