It has been a while since my last fishing report, but not because I haven't been fishing. Life gets busy and sometimes you forget so let's get to it.
The weather up here has finally warmed up to more of the summer hot we are use too, but not blazing yet. Shasta Siskiyou and Whiskeytown are producing good to great fishing catching action. Brown and Rainbow Trout as well as fat Kokanee have been my trolling targets.
This past father's day weekend was spent fishing mostly on Whiskeytown for Kokanee (Friday Saturday an Monday) and Sunday was spent on Shasta Lake.
The fish at both Lake can be caught between 40 an 80 feet. The Kokanee at Whiskeytown are fat an healthy and fighting hard. Monday my client Steve took a limit, the smallest Kokanee was 16 inches the largest was 17.5 inches and pushing 3 pounds.
I think this summer we will catch some 20 inch Kokanee. These fish are really eating and growing bigger every day perhaps we will see some 3 to 4 pounders. Dodgers with various hootchie/spinner/spinglow/spoon trailers tipped with my homemade garlic corn and special shrimp scent have been producing for my clients.
Shasta and Lake Siskiyou have been kicking out some decent brown and rainbow trout up to 5 pounds. Right now, the fish are averaging 1.5 to 3 pounds, but as we head deeper into Summer, those Shasta Lake Trout will pack on the poundsThey gorge themselves on threadfin shad. Trolling optimizer jr spoons and plugs lathered in Pro Cure threadfin shad gel has been the best methods for catching.
