Klamath River Fish Report for 9-24-2009

Fishing on the upper Klamath river has steadily improved this week. Earlier in the week while fishing with my Dad we hooked up on 8 Salmon landing 4 of them. We also landed one nice fat 22 inch hatchery Steelhead.  Yesterday, my client Don Smith (Shasta Valley Tires in Montague) of Hornbrook, Ca and I better than doubled our numbers from earlier in the week. We boated 11 out of 15 Salmon, the biggest being a 20 pound buck. Most of the Salmon are in the 9 to 14 pound class many of which are hens. The bigger bucks generally show up after the hens. All the Salmon are being caught while bouncing role, we have tried kwikfish but they haven't gone on the plug bite yet. It is early in the season and it is great to see such good numbers of fat good looking Salmon. The meat on these fish is a nice orangy pink right now. The weather is very cool in mornings but heating up to near 100 by the afternoon so getting out early is a must. I still have a few days open next week as well as some later dates in October. It is going to be a great year on the river.
