Klamath River Fish Report for 9-14-2009

It was a Salmon, Steelhead and Trout day on the upper Klamath River. My client Norman Taylor and I drifted from Irongate Hatchery down to the Klamathon Bridge yesterday, and found steady action on Steelhead and Trout, we also landed one 11-pound Salmon (hen). We new it was early for the Salmon on the upper Klamath (over the last few years the Salmon are up this way in fishable numbers by the last week in September) but we figured we would try anyway. Norman was rewarded for his efforts as he boated a nice hen at about 9:30am while bouncing roe. We saw about 8 to 10 Salmon rise over the course of the day so it worth hitting the major holes as you float down the river. We fished for Steelhead and Trout in-between holes and caught numerous 1/2 pound Steely Trout and a couple of adult Steelhead, the biggest being 3 plus pounder and over 20 inches. A backtrolled hotshot (size 30) with a worm trailer was the ticket to getting bit. It was a bit windy at times coupled with some cloud cover, kept the afternoon heat away. It is a great time to come and have the river to yourself. There were only 4 boats out fishing yesterday.
*****If you are looking to get in on some early season Salmon Steelhead and Trout fishing, I have weekdays and weekends open till the end of this month (September).
