Klamath River - December 14th, 2006
RECORDED:

FISHING: Great
Although, the weather has been poor (wind, rain, clouds and snow) the Winter Steelhead and Trout fishing on the Klamath River remains good. I fished the with friends (Guy and Barry) and clients (John Girarde and his Dad Jon) last weekend (Friday & Sunday) and we landed 6 nice adult Steelhead (3 to 5 pounds) and at least 50 Trout (10 to 16 inches). Those are good numbers for two days of fishing. What made the fishing even better was that hardly anyone was out fishing the river. We saw three other boats on the water, over the course of the two days. Plugs and bait worked the best; Crawdad plugs, Hotshots, Worms and Roe all produced fish. The Crawdad plug landed 5 of the 6 Adult Steelhead, with Steelhead roe taking the other.
***Be sure to check out the pics of the Steelhead by clicking on the link below
***My holiday special for Steelhead fishing on the Klamath River will end on December 31--$250 for two person.

FISHING: Great
My son Conner and I fished the Klamath River yesterday and found some hungry Steelhead and Trout. We fished from the Hatchery to the Fishhook and we landed one 5 pound Steelhead and 10 Trout. We fished for 2 hours in the afternoon (12:30 to 2:30) due to the weather. The weather has been freezing, with snow flurries since Sunday, so starting early in the morning is not important. Plugs and bouncing bait worked best. Hardly anyone is out fishing so the if you can handle the cold there are some hungry fish waiting.

Eagle Lake - November 21st, 2006

FISHING: Great
Eagle Lake is producing some nice Trout right now. Guy Ives and I fished for 4 days at Eagle Lake last week (Thursday to Sunday). We landed 28 out of a possible 44 Trout (3 to 5 pounds) over the four days. Trolling Rapalas and Sep's dodgers (smeared with Pautzke Krill Paste) with worms or flies worked the best for us. The Trout are still somewhat scattered around the lake; the Airstrip, Eagles Nest, and the Youth Camp areas were all good. Many of the fish are moving into the shollow water and up into the tullies as they look to spawn and feed on tui chubs. The weather was pretty good, for this time of year. We only had to deal with some nasty fog one day, that required GPS to navigate. The other days were a mix of cold temperatures, clouds, wind and Sun. All normal for this time of year. Eagle Lake will be open until the end of December so now is the time to go.

FISHING: Good
I have been fishing clients on the Klamath River for the past three days and found the Trout fishing to be excellent. Adult Steelhead on the other hand were very hard to come by. I was part of a four boat group that fished the River from Thursaday to Saturday. My boat alone caught and released close to 150 Trout, in the 6 to 16-inch range. The numbers were similar in the other three boats. As for adult Steelhead, that was another story. Our group averaged about one adult Steelhead per boat a day. The biggest Steelhead caught was in the 4 to 5 pound range. We tried just about everything in the tackle box (bait, flies, plugs, spinners) to get the bigger fish but they just were not co-operating. We drifted from the hatchery to klamathon bridge each day. The weather is very cold and wet right now which may have had a hand in the slow Steelhead fishing. We are seeing freezing temperatures throughout the nights and early mornings and snow in the higher elevations. Steelhead fishing will get better as the weather stabilizes and the more fish move up river to spawn. Although the weather was on the cold side we did have sun in the afternoon and hardly anyone is out fishing.

FISHING: Great
On Friday, the brothers McPhee (Bob and Dan) and I fished the Klamath River for Steelhead. We fished 40 miles downriver and found the fishing to be very good. We had steady action all day on half-pounders. Bob and Dan each landed one adult Steelhead with brother Dan taking the big fish honors. Dan landed a nice wild Steely that was over 20-inches and about 3 1/2 pounds. We used rebel crawdad plugs and hotshots with worms to land all our fish. We were the only boat on the water and the weather was just perfect. Check out the pics.
*** Steelhead fishing will only get better as the Salmon start spawning, November, December, and January are some of the best mothes for steelhead fishing on the Klamath. Very little pressure and lots of good hard fighting fish.

FISHING: Excellent
Salmon were on the bite again today. Jim and Winston hooked and other 20 fish, landed 10 of them. Mixed in the 10, was Winston's hog of day, a fat buck that was 39-inches and at least 25 pounds. This big old buck put up quite a battle but in the end he lost and had to pose for a picture (He was then released). The Salmon are getting close to spawning are turning darker by the day. Although, fresh fish are still coming up each day, and of these fresher Salmon, many are Jacks, (small males under 22-inches) which you can keep. They are good for the smoker. I have some open day this coming week if you looking for some late season Salmon action.

FISHING: Excellent
Salmon fishing on the upper Klamath is still going strong. I fished with Jim Burney (Owner of the Blue Herron RV Park and Restaurant) and his good friend Winston, who is visiting from Hawaii today. Together they hooked 20 Salmon landing 14 of them. All the Salmon were caught on Roe. Two of the Salmon were near 25 pounds. We are still seeing fresh Salmon coming up, so the fishing should remain good, through the month.

FISHING: Excellent
"The Boys" from Company D, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry, 4th Infantry division, 1968-69, had a hell of a trip. Jack Anderson, Michael Cramer, and Patrick Dudney landed 9 out 18 Salmon, today. The Salmon were all caught by bouncing roe or using a jet diver and roe. The action was very good until the Sun had been on the water for while. Once the sun had been up for a couple of hours the bite shut down. I have been fishing the upper part of the river and taking out at the Fishhook restaruant, on most of my trips. The Salmon fishing should remain good for another week or so. The weather is cold (37) in the mornings and near 80 and Sunny in the afternoon. Now is time to go if your thinking about it! I have some open days so call to book a trip.

FISHING: Great
Anytime you can get 10 and 12 year old boys (with sugar highs, SODA!!) hooking there own fish the bite must be prettygood. I'll give the kids some credit, they could bounce bait pretty good for their ages. In the end, the diver with roe, worked best, as they hooked-up 12 Salmon on Monday. Unfortunately, for the boys the landing ratio was not what they wanted. 8 of the 12 Salmon managed to get close enough to boat to see, but not in the net. That's fishing, otherwise, we would just call it catching. The Salmon are pretty much just biting Roe, I havent had much action with Kwikfish, on the last two trips. Fishing has been getting better has the flow of water has been steady. I have some open days left, so call now to book a trip.

Lake Siskiyou - October 8th, 2006
RECORDED:

FISHING: Excellent
Lake Siskiyou is red hot. On Saturday, my clients landed 41 trout in just under 4 hours of fishing. Wayne, Uncle Wai, and the boys hit the lake about 7:30 in the morning. The mornings are getting down right cold, we are starting to get frost on the windows. The trout dont seem to care at all, we trolled various Sep's dodgers with worm trailers and caught fish all morning. The Trout are all over the lake but you need to go slow or you won't get bit. Special thanks to Guy Ives (Sis-Q-Guide service 530-598-2928) for helping me with the trip, you were great help!!!
On Friday, Wayne and Uncle Wai fished the Klamath River for Salmon. Poor Uncle had to reel in every fish we hooked. The bite was slow but we hooked up 8 fish landing 6. Not bad fishing for a full moon weekend.
Today, I fished two brothers (Clayton 15, and BobbyJoe 22) who were part of a big family outing on the river. The boys hooked up on 8 Salmon landing 3 of them. The same group will be back at it tomorrow. FISH ON!!
